Trussell has worked in partnership with Tesco since 2012 and we are proud of everything that we have collectively achieved over the last decade.

Together with food redistribution charity FareShare, we are working to build stronger communities across the UK. Our partnership with Tesco is the single biggest source of donated food in our community, and we know that many food banks across the UK could not continue to provide emergency food parcels to people facing hardship without Tesco’s support.

Tesco colleagues and customers generously support the work of Trussell in a number of ways. These include:

• Supporting food banks to meet immediate need, through permanent collection points located in more than 500 Tesco stores, and 535 Express stores.
• Helping food banks to cover the costs of practical support and advice services through a 20% Top Up financial donation from Tesco which complements customers’ donations in store.
• Boosting the provision of emergency food parcels at busy times of year, through annual food collections in store.

Tesco Food Collection

The Tesco Food Collection takes place in the run up to Christmas, across hundreds of Tesco stores. The events involve a co-ordinated effort between Tesco, Trussell and FareShare to support people facing hardship in local communities, with volunteers greeting customers in store and encouraging them to add an item or two to their shop.

The Food Collection is invaluable to food banks as not only does it provide additional food items for them to distribute but it also provides an opportunity for them to recruit new volunteers, make more people aware of the support they provide and explain their work to a wider audience, which often leads to more people becoming supporters and long-term donors.
